Serving the Community
by Jackson Ames ‘23
Every holiday season, the MSC Aggie Leaders of Tomorrow helps facilitate and coordinate the Angel Tree program with the Salvation Army. The goal of the program is to provide gifts for children of economically disadvantaged families in the Bryan/College Station community.
As part of the Angel Tree experience, members of MSC ALOT design marketing materials and t-shirts, plan informationals, and organize volunteers from other student organizations. In 2019, Angel Tree had more than 400 volunteers to bring more than 800 children gifts for the holiday season.
Impressed by the Salvation Army for how the program is planned and implemented, MSC ALOT was given the opportunity to be featured in a best practices video to be shared with other Salvation Army chapters worldwide. Those featured were able to share experiences, expertise and what it meant to be a part of a program impacting the campus and local community.
