Student Leaders Visit Dallas
by Lindsey Walker ‘22
This year, MSC Spencers hosted the 19th annual MSC Spencer Leadership Conference. On the morning of February 6th, delegates traveled to Dallas, Texas to meet speakers focused on MSC Spencer’s three pillars of self-authorship, selfless service and innovative leadership.
MSC Spencer is a unique opportunity for sophomore delegates to interact with like-minded student leaders on campus. These relationships help build professional profiles and exposes students to the array of future career paths. The conference left students feeling motivated to write their own futures while never forgetting those around them. A common theme among speakers was to always take time for people in each aspect of life. Conference speakers also made it clear this compassion must be extended to those at home. Simply pouring out support and care for the people around us is a form of leadership resonating much deeper than an authoritarian approach.
To finish off the weekend, delegates partnered with Rainbow Days at the Texas Rangers Foundation to spend time with children from unfortunate circumstances. This experience embodied the pillar of selfless service as they spent time playing Wiffle ball and listening to the children’s imaginative stories. MSC Spencer delegates described themselves as grateful for the eye-opening conference and looking forward to the program expanding within the student body.
