MSC SOCIAL MEDIA TAKEOVER GUIDELINES
The MSC Marketing team is committed to telling the “MSC Story” but we know the best storytellers are most often the ones living the experience. Our goal with Instagram takeovers is to showcase the MSC student experience with the Aggie community and prospective students to give insight into the next level leadership of the MSC.
Remember you are representing Texas A&M, the MSC, and your committee! So think about how you are presenting yourself in your takeovers.
REVIEW OUR SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES BELOW:
Follow this schedule for the day of your takeover:
- Story 1: Takeover Tuesday Intro Template
- Post 1: Intro of Committee
- Story 2: About Me Template
- Story 3: This or That Template
*Please add stories or posts about your committee or any events happening in the future*
Takeover Tuesday Policy:
- DO NOT share the Instagram login information with anyone else. In order to keep our account protected, it is paramount that you are the only person who has access to the account login information.
- Our Instagram story is meant to be entertaining and informative for users of all ages. As such, we strive to keep the content PG. Content not allowed includes (but is not limited to):
- Foul language
- Alcohol, tobacco, or drugs
- Sexual content
- Any illegal activity
- DO NOT USE COPYRIGHTED MUSIC. If the post/story is removed, do not attempt to repost/reshare
Make sure the MSC Marketing and Communications team has a photo of yourself, your full name, major, and year of study so we can promote the takeover on other social channels. Once your date has been confirmed, a member of the MSC Marketing Team will email you with your specific login information including a unique password and the date and time of the takeover. YOU WILL ONLY HAVE ACCESS TO OUR ACCOUNT FOR TWENTY FOUR HOURS.
In addition, while we have resumed close to normal activities, we recognize that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the nation and the Texas A&M community. We would ask that you keep the following in mind as you plan out and execute your takeover.
Covid Best Practices:
- PLEASE be mindful of people’s comfort level.
- If you choose to congregate in the SPO, please be mindful of those around you. Keep noise to a minimum. Although you may want to feature your advisor or other committee directors/members, please keep in mind social distancing guidelines.
- DO NOT discuss personal beliefs or ideas regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Follow all university protocols and guidelines regarding close contact or positive test results.
Guidelines/Suggestions:
- Some events and programs continue to be hybrid - let’s not forget to highlight those as well as what is coming up.
- Speak about your committee and the impact it makes on campus.
- What is the purpose of your committee?
- What are the events and programs you host?
- Remember, committees have a purpose. Only the department has a mission.
- What is your leadership style? Talk about how you engage in leadership within your committee and how others do as well.
- What does leadership look like during times like this? How are you keeping your committee engaged and interested in developing as leaders?
- Use the questions feature to engage with students who are interested about your committee and have questions.
- Make a post about upcoming events or to highlight things your committee is doing.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Always start your takeover with an introduction, and let the audience know why you are doing a takeover. Use the Instagram Story Templates created by the MSC Marketing team! The templates were attached in the first confirmation email and can also be found online.
- Only use clear pictures and concise captions.
- Include a mix of videos and photos. Not everyone will be viewing the story with the volume turned up, so either overlay text or use captioning.
- Remember that sound is important in a video clip, so be conscious of background noise, wind, etc.
- Videos with music will be removed unless inserting music from Instagram directly.
- Be sure to end your takeover with goodbye and thank everyone for following along!
- Tag your committee as much as you can so you can easily repost to your stories!
- DO NOT: Give out your personal Instagram profile for others to follow. As you are representing the MSC, this is an inappropriate action that makes the organization look unprofessional.
Other things to consider:
- Be consistent! Sometimes people lose steam throughout the day, so be sure to pace yourself.
- Focus on quality over quantity! If your story is too long users won’t watch until the end. Between 10–15 posts is ideal.
- Don’t follow or unfollow any other Instagram users or like/comment on posts.
- Stay true to yourself and have fun!
You have from when you login until the end of the day to take over the account. Please log out when you are finished with your takeover and let me know when you do so. Also, delete this email at the end of the day on Tuesday.
Thanks again for your hard work! We look forward to following your story!
Keepin’ it REEL Wednesday Policy:
We want to highlight your committee more than once! Please send us any REEL you would like highlighted for KEEPIN’ IT REEL WEDNESDAY! There is NO LIMIT for the number of REELS you submit! Take advantage of the latest (appropriate) soundbites on Instagram and help us grow our audience! Reels must follow these guidelines:
- No longer than 30 seconds
- No explicit music
- No copyrighted music
Once you’ve created your masterpiece, submit to this folder in the MSC Marketing Resources Drive and then email us at [email protected] so we know it’s there!
